  1. Hi, I have read your very interesting blog about the Barabarossa Backstay Adjuster. I have the same adjuster and would like to overhaul this over the winter. I have read the harken sheet as well.
It not clear to me how to actually disassemble the adjuster. It seems very tight and I’ve only noticed one imbus screw on the threaded flange.
Would it be possible for you to give me some clues/guidance for disassembling the adjuster? Thanks.

    1. Hello and welcome to my blog. When I did the Barbarossa Backstay Adjuster it was not possible to find any information about it on the web and I am happy that someone else can benefit from my experience.
The adjuster can be disassembled by releasing the imbus screw and then unscrewing the top part of the adjuster. You will need a special tool that fits into the notches at the top end of the adjuster part. Mine was not that tight and once it got the first kick, it came off very easily. I can send you more pictures if you want. Fair winds, Evan

  2. Hello. I too am overhauling my backstay adjuster. Do you know how to remove the part where the winch handle inserts? I cant figure it out. I’d like to clean inside and replace whatever bearings, if there are any. I’ve taken the top part apart, cleaned and re-greased it, and plan to buy the bearings etc next week to finish up that part. If you can send any more pictures to my email, especially about the winch handle section, that would be great. Thanks!

    1. Hi Gary and welcome to my blog.
I am happy that someone found the information I posted about that Barbarossa back stay adjuster, so it was of some use :)
Unfortunately, I cant give you much advise on the winch handle section because I did not dismantle it but I will send you all the pictures I have on your email address.
      Fair winds,
      Evan
